Zoomed in on the materials
The fabric used in this product consists 100% of repurposed cotton from old scouting tents. The tents are stripped by hand and the fabric is machine-washed and ironed. Repurposing material instead or recycling uses way less energy and is therefore a more sustainable option. The only downside is that the material has already degraded to a certain degree from its first use, as a tent in this case. But don’t worry, we make sure that the fabric is still in a state that ensures a long lifetime for our products.
The straps, webbing, are made from polypropylene, which is considered one of the more environmentally friendly plastics. The webbing is made locally (in the EU, country not specified by manufacturer).
The zipper consists solely of polyester, which isn't a very sustainable material. However, because both the coil (teeth) and the tape are made from the same material it makes the recycling way easier than if they are a different material. The metal for the slider is the most durable and robust option.
The quick release buckle is strong and durable made from a hard plastic that wasn't specified by the manufacturer. It is probably made of POM or ABS which are not very high in the sustainability list. But since it's a hard plastic and a robust design it should guarantee a long lifetime for the product.
The Obvious brand label is woven with polyester yarn of which 80 procent is recycled. It's Oeko-Tex 100 certified, which means it's clear of any toxic materials and is safe for skin contact.
